Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Books of the Year So Far

To join Top 5 Wednesday, check out the Goodreads group.
We are now in June, ladies and gentlemen, which means that the year is almost half over.  Honestly, I can't believe it.  I still feel like 2015 has just started.

The first Top 5 Wednesday topic for this month is "Favorite Books of the Year So Far."  I have had an immensely successful reading year thus far, mostly because I have read quite a few enjoyable books.  So let's see what the top five up to this point are.

Number Five

Dracula by Bram Stoker

This year, I finally read this classic vampire novel, and I absolutely loved it.  Stoker's Count Dracula was slightly different than the characters I'm used to (such as Anne Rice's), but I could see their roots in him.  I loved the eerie tone and beautiful language.  It's definitely one of my favorite Gothic novels.  If you care to see a full review, you may click here.

Number Four

The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson

The entire Mistborn Trilogy was excellent, but I was completely surprised by how good this ending was.  A few of the issues I had with characters in the earlier installments were fixed in this one, and every question was answered in spectacular and unforeseeable ways.  I enjoyed this book immensely, and wrote a full review of it, as well.

Number Three

A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers

Let me be real for a second - I was not expecting to like this book at all.  Just looking at the cover was enough to put me off.  I thought it was going to be a ridiculous romance with melodrama and some Scripture thrown in.  However, it was so much more than that.  I was pleasantly surprised and truly blown away by how much I enjoyed this book.  A full review is coming.

Number Two

Batman: Death of the Family by Scott Snyder

This is definitely my favorite comic this year, as well as one of my favorites of all time.  Snyder's Joker is just that good, and the story came together in a touching, yet frightening way.  I could read this trade over and over again, and I can't wait to see what else happens with Joker.  To see a full review, click here.

Number One

This Burns My Heart by Samuel Park

There was absolutely no competition for first place.  This Burns My Heart is hands-down the best book I've read this year.  I love literary fiction and Asian literature, so marrying the two was reader heaven for me.  The main character was compelling and raw, the story heartbreaking, and the writing gorgeous.  I could talk about this book much more, but I already did a full review, so you can check that out if you're interested.

Those are my top five books of 2015 up to this point.  What are your favorite books so far?  Have you read any I listed?

I recently did a post of my top 10 recommendations for beginners in classic literature, so click here if that interests you.

Happy reading!

  1. I haven't read any of these books, but they all sound great! Everyone keeps recommending the Mistborn series, so I guess I had better get onto that and read it sooner rather than later! Great post x

    1. The Mistborn series lived up to the hype for me. And it appeals across a range, too. Even if you don't normally read fantasy, I think you'll like it.

  2. I have to read Dracula this year. I have always loved vampires (until they started sparkling) and am ashamed this sits on my shelves. In fact, I even own 3 different copies of it. I hope to try Mistborn sometime this year as well.

    1. Haha. I agree with you about the sparkly vampires. There are so many great vampire classics that I still need to read, as well, but I'm glad I finally read Dracula.

  3. I've seen so much love for the Mistborn series! I'm hoping to pick it up this year, for sure. Dracula's another one I'd like to read soon, as I'm studying a Gothic literature course in a few months. Nice list!

  4. I'm not much of a fantasy reader but I've heard so many raves about the Mistborn trilogy that I bought it for my husband. He just started the first book and it sounds like he's in for quite a ride!
