Bout of Books 13: Challenge - Bookish Survey

Today is the first in the Bout of Books week-long read-a-thon!  And with today comes the first challenge.

Today's challenge is over at Writing My Own Fairy Tale, so thank you to Lori for kicking the week off with an awesome giveaway.

For today, there is a short list of bookish questions to be answered.  So let's get to them.

1. How do you organize your shelves?

Right now my shelves are a bit of a mess because I have more books than space.  However, the ones that are organized are shelved by genre and size.  On my standard shelf, each genre is placed next to another that made sense to me in order to create a "flow."  So, the children's books are next to the middle-grades, which transition into YA.  On my Tetris shelf, however, each cube is one genre, and they are placed depending on fit.

2. What is one of your favorite books that's not in one of your favorite genres?

Although I tend to read YA as a tactic to propel me out of a reading slump, it's far from a favorite genre of mine.  Yet, as in most any genre, there are a few books I truly love.  Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl is one of them.  I read this book last year, and it was one of my favorites.

3. What is the last 5-star book you read?

The Hero of Ages, by Brandon Sanderson.  The entire Mistborn Trilogy is excellent, and I would highly recommend it, even if you're not heavily into fantasy.

4. What book are you most excited to read during the read-a-thon?

The Diving Pool, by Ogawa Yoko.  I didn't add it to my grab pile originally, but when I remembered it, I became very excited to finally read it.

5. What book do you recommend the most?

There are many books beloved by me.  However, one that I've never heard anyone talk about is Sherri Vanderveen's Absent.  I adore this book, and it made a tremendous impact on me.  You can see my full review here.

  1. Fangirl is brilliant - definitely one of my favorite YA contemporaries. Not sure whether it is my Rainbow Rowell favorite because I have a very hard time deciding between that one and Attachments :)
Have fun with Bout of Books this week!

  2. I would love to have a Tetris shelf. I also go by size and usually genre. I've yet to read Fangirl because my and contemporary romance just don't mix well together but it's a favorite by many people and I think I would love it too. Good luck with the read-a-thon. :)

    1. I couldn't stand Georgie in Landline, so it's my least favorite. As a married woman, I found myself judging her a lot, which I know is awful, but I couldn't help it.

  4. Fangirl is one of my favorite books as well! And I've had The Mistborn series on my TBR list for a long time! I really need to finally read it!
Thanks so much for participating! I hope you have a great week!

  7. I've wanted to read Fangirl, but I just haven't got to it yet. I've heard it's so good. I've read Elantris, but not anything else by Sanderson yet. I want to. There's just so many books and so little time.

    1. I haven't read Elantris yet. The read-a-long is reading that now, but I needed a break from Sanderson.
